Neurobehavioral Characterization of the ZF PD Model
We are interested in Neurodegenerative Disorders, especially AD and PD. We investigate the neurobehavioral characterization of PD using different animal models. We use the Rodent model as well as the Zebra Fish model for PD and AD.
Currently, experiments are done using zebrafish, which allows a combination of in vivo activity imaging, electrophysiology, and behavior, as well as optical and molecular manipulation. ZF is a cheap affordable model for PD and PD Plus. Much of what we find is relevant to other vertebrates, including mammals.

Genotyping Characterization and HMGB1 Protein using ZF PD Model
An anti-sense HMGB1 morpholino oligonucleotide will be designed using biostatistical platforms to knock down the expression of HMGB1 protein in the neurons of adult Danio ratio zebrafish by intra-ventricular injection.

Neuroprotective effects of EBN using the ZF PD Model
We try EBN, Thymoquinone, and other natural products for their possible neuroprotective effects against PD pathophysiology.
2 VO Rat Model of AD
We induce and validate chronic cerebral hypoperfusion in rats. It is a valid model for AD Dementia as well as brain ischemia.
Genotyping of PD patients
We are a part of EAPDG which is the East Asian Parkinson’s Disease Genomics Consortium (EAPDGC) branches out from The International Parkinson Disease Genomics Consortium. Further, Dr Mohamed is the founder and the PI of AfrAbia-PD-Genomic Consortium (AAPDGC). It is the first of its kind to introduce AfrAbia concept in genotyping of PD patients in collaboration with GP2 and MJF.
